the international students and scholars office (isso) advises and assists students through the complexities of u.s. immigration and visa and travel regulations, both prior to their arrival and throughout their stay at smith. we assess the needs of international students and professors and facilitate their smooth transition to life at smith and within the united states. our office conducts programs and workshops on various topics throughout the year, and we act as a liaison and an advocate with governmental agencies and various college offices.

to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the international students organization, we are continuing the tradition of is day this year as is week. international students and alumni are sharing delicious recipes from their cultures. we are joined virtually all around the world and excited to share our stories and recipes to offer a taste of home. check out these delicious dishes and participate in our is week challenge from november 9–16. let’s get cooking, all over the world!

dhs proposal to end duration of status

isso’s town hall presentation slides are available to view! we also recorded the presentation. if you'd like access to view the recording, please email to request the link and password.

on september 25, 2020, the us department of homeland security published a proposal to end duration of status for the f, j and i visa categories. the proposal is in a 30-day public comment period, and comments can be submitted via until october 26th. please see our news & Announcements page for more details.

new study abroad policy for international students unable to return to campus

international students, along with u.s. residents or citizens residing outside the u.s., may be granted exceptions to study abroad locally at universities or programs in their home countries and to apply for transfer of the credits to smith. please visit the news and events page of the office for international study website for more details.
